For the Pulled Pork:
- 3–4 lbs pork shoulder or pork butt
- ½ cup soy sauce
- ¼ cup hoisin sauce
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp rice vinegar
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1–2 tsp chili paste or Sriracha (optional)
- 1 cup chicken or beef broth
For the Slaw:
- 2 cups green cabbage, thinly sliced
- 1 cup red cabbage, thinly sliced
- 1 cup carrots, grated
- 2 green onions, chopped
- ¼ cup fresh cilantro, chopped
- 2 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp lime juice
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
For Serving:
- Soft sandwich buns or brioche buns
- Extra hoisin sauce or Sriracha (optional)
Instructions
Making the Pulled Pork
- Prepare the pork: Trim excess fat and cut into large chunks.
- Make the marinade: Whisk together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, and chili paste.
- Slow cook: Place pork in a slow cooker, pour marinade over it, add broth, and cook on low for 6–8 hours until fork-tender.
- Shred the pork: Remove and shred with forks, mixing with remaining sauce.
Making the Slaw
- Prepare vegetables: Thinly slice cabbage, grate carrots, chop green onions and cilantro.
- Make the dressing: Whisk together rice vinegar, lime juice, honey, sesame oil, soy sauce, and sesame seeds.
- Toss the slaw: Mix vegetables with dressing and let sit for 10–15 minutes.
Assembling the Sandwiches
- Toast the buns lightly for added flavor.
- Pile on shredded pork onto the bottom bun.
- Top with crunchy slaw.
- Drizzle extra hoisin or Sriracha, if desired.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!

Spicy Kick: Add extra Sriracha or red pepper flakes.
