Baked Apple Fritters

  • Total Time: 33 minutes
  • Yield: 10-12 fritters 1x

Description

Baked apple fritters are a healthier twist on the classic treat, packed with fresh apples, warm spices, and a light glaze. Perfect for breakfast, dessert, or a snack!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 cups diced apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 12 tbsp water

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven – Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. Prepare the Apples – Peel, core, and dice apples into small chunks. Set aside.
  3. Mix Dry Ingredients – In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  4. Combine Wet Ingredients – In another bowl, beat the eggs, then add vanilla extract, milk, and melted butter. Stir until well combined.
  5. Form the Batter – Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Fold in the diced apples.
  6. Scoop Onto Baking Sheet – Using a spoon or cookie scoop, drop mounds of batter onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them a few inches apart.
  7. Bake – Place in the oven and bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the fritters are golden brown and set in the middle.
  8. Prepare the Glaze – In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, lemon juice, and a little water until a smooth, pourable glaze forms.
  9. Glaze the Fritters – Once the fritters have cooled slightly, drizzle the glaze over the top. Let it set before serving.

Notes

  • Gluten-Free Option – Substitute all-purpose flour with a gluten-free flour blend.
  • Dairy-Free Alternative – Use almond milk and dairy-free butter.
  • Nutty Twist – Add chopped walnuts or pecans for extra crunch.
  • Caramel Drizzle – Instead of a sugar glaze, drizzle warm caramel over the fritters.
  • Spiced Up – Add a pinch of ground ginger or cardamom for an extra kick.
