Chocolate Croissant French Toast

  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

Indulge in the ultimate breakfast treat with Chocolate Croissant French Toast, a luxurious twist on classic French toast. Buttery croissants, rich chocolate, and a creamy custard mixture create a decadent, melt-in-your-mouth experience perfect for brunch or special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 croissants
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet or dark chocolate (chopped or chips)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • Powdered sugar (for garnish)
  • Maple syrup or chocolate sauce (optional)
  • Fresh berries (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Croissants: Slice the croissants in half lengthwise to create two halves per croissant. If they are fresh, allow them to sit out for a few hours to dry slightly for better absorption.
  2. Make the Custard Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt until well combined.
  3. Soak the Croissants: Dip each croissant half into the custard mixture, ensuring they are well coated but not overly soggy. Let any excess drip off.
  4. Add Chocolate: Sprinkle a generous amount of chopped chocolate or chocolate chips onto one half of each croissant. Place the other half on top to create a sandwich.
  5. Cook the French Toast: Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat and melt a small amount of butter. Place the croissant sandwiches onto the skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and the chocolate is melted.
  6. Serve and Garnish: Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm with maple syrup, chocolate sauce, or fresh berries for an extra touch of flavor.

Notes

  • Nutella Twist: Swap out chocolate chips for a generous spread of Nutella before cooking.
  • Almond Delight: Add slivered almonds inside the croissant before cooking for a nutty crunch.
  • Berry Bliss: Include sliced strawberries or raspberries inside the croissant for a fruity contrast.
  • Caramel Drizzle: Drizzle with caramel sauce for an extra sweet treat.
  • White Chocolate & Raspberry: Use white chocolate and fresh raspberries for a sophisticated flavor profile.
