Ingredients
Scale
- 4 croissants
- 3 large eggs
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet or dark chocolate (chopped or chips)
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- Powdered sugar (for garnish)
- Maple syrup or chocolate sauce (optional)
- Fresh berries (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Croissants: Slice the croissants in half lengthwise to create two halves per croissant. If they are fresh, allow them to sit out for a few hours to dry slightly for better absorption.
- Make the Custard Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt until well combined.
- Soak the Croissants: Dip each croissant half into the custard mixture, ensuring they are well coated but not overly soggy. Let any excess drip off.
- Add Chocolate: Sprinkle a generous amount of chopped chocolate or chocolate chips onto one half of each croissant. Place the other half on top to create a sandwich.
- Cook the French Toast: Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat and melt a small amount of butter. Place the croissant sandwiches onto the skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and the chocolate is melted.
- Serve and Garnish: Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm with maple syrup, chocolate sauce, or fresh berries for an extra touch of flavor.
Notes
- Nutella Twist: Swap out chocolate chips for a generous spread of Nutella before cooking.
- Almond Delight: Add slivered almonds inside the croissant before cooking for a nutty crunch.
- Berry Bliss: Include sliced strawberries or raspberries inside the croissant for a fruity contrast.
- Caramel Drizzle: Drizzle with caramel sauce for an extra sweet treat.
- White Chocolate & Raspberry: Use white chocolate and fresh raspberries for a sophisticated flavor profile.
