Easter Bunny Buns

  • Total Time: 2.5 hours
  • Yield: 12 buns 1x

Description

Easter Bunny Buns are soft, fluffy, and slightly sweet buns shaped like adorable bunnies. Perfect for Easter brunch, breakfast, or dessert, these festive treats are fun to make and delicious to eat!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 12 raisins or chocolate chips (for eyes)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: Warm the milk until lukewarm. Stir in sugar and yeast, letting it sit until foamy (about 5-10 minutes).
  2. Mix the Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
  5. Shape the Bunnies: Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal portions. Roll each portion into a log, shape into a bunny by forming ears, and use a raisin or chocolate chip for the eyes.
  6. Second Rise: Place the shaped buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let them rise again for about 30 minutes.
  7. Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Cool and Serve: Let the buns cool on a wire rack before serving. Optionally, brush with melted butter for extra shine.

Notes

  • Cinnamon Sugar Bunny Buns: Sprinkle with a cinnamon sugar mix before baking.
  • Chocolate-Filled Buns: Add a piece of chocolate inside each dough ball before shaping.
  • Glazed Bunnies: Drizzle with a simple icing made of powdered sugar and milk.
  • Whole Wheat Version: Substitute part of the flour with whole wheat flour for a healthier option.
