Easter Bunny Buns

  • Total Time: 2 hours
  • Yield: 12 buns 1x

Description

Easter Bunny Buns are adorable, fluffy, and slightly sweet bread rolls shaped like bunnies—perfect for Easter brunch. Enjoy them plain, dusted with powdered sugar, or filled with jam or chocolate. A fun and festive treat for the whole family!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons yeast (one packet)
  • 3/4 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)
  • Chocolate chips or raisins (for bunny eyes)

Instructions

Prepare the Dough

  1. Warm the milk slightly and mix it with yeast and a teaspoon of sugar. Let it sit for about 5–10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add the yeast mixture, softened butter, egg, and vanilla extract.
  4. Knead the dough for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about 1–1.5 hours until doubled in size.

Shape the Bunnies 6. Punch down the risen dough and divide it into equal portions. 7. Roll each portion into a log and twist it to form bunny shapes, or shape small balls for heads and attach elongated dough pieces for ears. 8. Place the shaped buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. 9. Add chocolate chips or raisins for eyes. 10. Cover and let the shaped dough rest for another 15–20 minutes.

Bake the Buns 11. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). 12. Brush the buns lightly with milk or egg wash for a golden-brown finish. 13. Bake for 12–15 minutes until golden and puffed up.

Finishing Touches 14. Allow the buns to cool slightly before dusting them with powdered sugar. 15. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • Chocolate-filled – Add a small piece of chocolate inside each dough ball before shaping.
  • Jam-filled – Spoon a bit of fruit jam inside for a fruity surprise.
  • Cinnamon sugar coating – Brush with butter and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar after baking.
  • Savory version – Reduce sugar and add cheese or herbs for a non-sweet variation.
