Ingredients
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm water
- 2 ¼ tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp olive oil or melted butter
- 3 cloves fresh garlic, minced
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley or other herbs (optional)
- 2 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Instructions
-
Activate the Yeast:
Combine warm water, sugar, and yeast in a bowl. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy. -
Prepare the Dough:
In a mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil, mixing until a dough forms. Adjust with flour or water if needed. -
Knead the Dough:
Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes or until smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook. -
First Rise:
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl. Cover and let rise in a warm spot for 1–2 hours, or until doubled in size. -
Shape the Rolls:
Punch down the dough, divide it into 12 equal portions, and shape each into a ball. Arrange in a greased baking dish, leaving space between rolls. -
Second Rise:
Cover the rolls and let rise for 30–45 minutes until slightly puffed. -
Prepare Garlic Butter:
Melt butter in a small pan, add minced garlic, and sauté for 1–2 minutes. Stir in parsley or herbs. -
Bake the Rolls:
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the rolls with garlic butter, sprinkle Parmesan if desired, and bake for 20–25 minutes until golden. -
Final Touch:
Brush the rolls with more garlic butter as they come out of the oven. Serve warm.
