Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
- 2 tbsp flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/2 tsp salt (or to taste)
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 12 oz egg noodles (or preferred accompaniment)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Cook the Noodles: If using egg noodles, cook according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- Brown the Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain excess fat and set aside.
- Sauté Aromatics: In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté onion until softened. Add garlic and mushrooms, cooking until mushrooms are tender.
- Prepare the Sauce: Sprinkle flour over the mushroom mixture, stirring continuously. Gradually pour in beef broth, stirring to prevent lumps.
- Add Seasonings: Mix in Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Simmer until thickened.
- Combine with Beef: Return cooked beef to the skillet and stir to combine.
- Finish with Sour Cream: Reduce heat to low and stir in sour cream. Heat through without boiling.
- Serve: Spoon over egg noodles or preferred base. Garnish with fresh parsley.
Notes
- Substitutions: Use ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option. Replace sour cream with Greek yogurt or heavy cream.
- Gluten-Free: Use cornstarch instead of flour and serve over gluten-free pasta or rice.
- Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Freeze the sauce (without noodles) for up to 3 months.
- Reheating: Warm on the stove over low heat with a splash of beef broth or microwave in short intervals, stirring in between.
