- 1/3 cup honey
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tbsp olive oil or butter
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar or rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp cornstarch (optional, for thickening sauce)
- 1/4 cup water
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Chicken
- Pat the chicken dry and season with salt and pepper.
- If using boneless chicken, slice into even pieces.
Step 2: Make the Honey Garlic Sauce
- In a bowl, whisk together honey, garlic, soy sauce, vinegar, and water.
- If using cornstarch, mix with 1 tbsp water to create a slurry and set aside.
Step 3: Cook the Chicken
- For Skillet Cooking:
- Heat oil/butter in a pan over medium heat.
- Cook chicken for 4-5 minutes per side until golden brown.
- Remove chicken and set aside.
- For Oven-Baking:
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Arrange chicken in a baking dish and pour sauce over it.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, basting occasionally.
- For Slow Cooker:
- Place chicken in slow cooker and pour sauce over it.
- Cook on low for 4-5 hours or high for 2-3 hours.
Step 4: Add the Sauce
- Pour sauce into the pan and simmer until thickened.
- Stir in cornstarch slurry if using, and cook until desired consistency is reached.
- Return chicken to the pan and coat with sauce.
Step 5: Serve
- Transfer chicken to a serving plate.
- Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.
- Serve with steamed rice, vegetables, or noodles.
