Ingredients
Scale
- 4 slices of hearty bread (such as sourdough or Irish soda bread)
- 1 ½ cups Irish cheddar cheese, grated
- 2 tbsp butter, softened
- 1 tsp Dijon or whole grain mustard
- ½ tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tbsp scallions, finely chopped (optional)
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- ¼ tsp garlic powder (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Bread – Spread a thin layer of butter on one side of each bread slice.
- Flavor the Cheese – In a bowl, mix grated Irish cheddar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, chopped scallions, black pepper, and garlic powder.
- Assemble the Toasties – Spread the cheese mixture evenly on the unbuttered side of one slice of bread. Top with another slice, butter-side facing outward.
- Cook to Perfection – Heat a skillet over medium-low heat. Place the sandwich butter-side down, cooking for 3-4 minutes until golden. Flip and cook another 3-4 minutes until the cheese is fully melted.
- Serve and Enjoy – Let rest for a minute, slice diagonally, and serve hot with soup or salad.
