  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

Pepper steak with bell peppers and onion is a quick and flavorful stir-fry featuring tender beef, crisp vegetables, and a savory sauce. Perfect for weeknight dinners!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb beef (flank steak or sirloin), thinly sliced

  • 2 bell peppers (red, green, or yellow), sliced

  • 1 onion, sliced

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, minced

  • 3 tbsp soy sauce

  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce

  • 1 tbsp cornstarch

  • 1/2 cup beef broth or water

  • 1 tbsp brown sugar

  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

  • 1 tsp sesame oil

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

  • 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)

  • Cooked rice (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Beef: Slice the beef into thin strips against the grain. Toss with soy sauce, cornstarch, and black pepper. Marinate for 15 minutes.

  2. Prepare the Vegetables: Slice bell peppers and onion; mince garlic and ginger.

  3. Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, oyster sauce, beef broth, brown sugar, and red pepper flakes (if using).

  4. Cook the Beef: Heat 1 tbsp vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear beef for 1-2 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.

  5. Sauté the Vegetables: Add 1 tbsp oil to the pan. Stir-fry onion, garlic, and ginger for 1 minute. Add bell peppers and cook for 2-3 minutes until slightly tender but still crisp.

  6. Combine Everything: Return beef to the pan, pour in the sauce, and stir. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and vegetables.

  7. Finish and Serve: Drizzle with sesame oil and garnish with green onions. Serve hot over rice.

Notes

  • Spicy Kick: Add extra red pepper flakes or a splash of sriracha.

  • Different Proteins: Substitute beef with chicken, shrimp, or tofu.

  • Low-Sodium Option: Use low-sodium soy sauce and reduce oyster sauce.

  • Extra Vegetables: Include mushrooms, snap peas, or carrots.
