Instructions
- Activate the Yeast – In a small bowl, mix warm water and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Mix the Dough – In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Pour in the activated yeast mixture and vegetable oil. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
- Knead the Dough – Transfer to a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. If using a stand mixer, knead for 5-6 minutes.
- First Rise – Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled in size.
- Shape the Loaves – Punch down the dough, divide it into two portions, shape into loaves, and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Second Rise – Cover loosely with a towel and let rise for 30-45 minutes until puffy.
- Bake the Bread – Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). If using an egg wash, brush it over the loaves. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool and Serve – Transfer to a wire rack to cool before slicing and serving.
