- 1 1/2 cups cooked chickpeas (or 1 can, drained and rinsed)
- 1/3 cup tahini
- 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp olive oil, plus more for garnish
- 1/2 tsp ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp salt (or to taste)
- 2–4 tbsp water (as needed for consistency)
- Optional: paprika, chopped parsley, sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the Chickpeas – If using dried chickpeas, soak overnight and cook until tender. If using canned, rinse and drain.
- Blend the Ingredients – In a food processor, combine chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, garlic, olive oil, cumin, and salt. Blend until smooth.
- Adjust Consistency – Slowly add water while blending to achieve a creamy texture.
- Taste and Adjust – Add more salt, lemon juice, or tahini to suit your preference.
- Serve and Garnish – Transfer to a serving bowl, drizzle with olive oil, and top with paprika, parsley, or sesame seeds if desired.
- Enjoy – Serve with pita bread, fresh veggies, or as a sandwich spread.
Notes
- For extra smooth hummus, peel the chickpeas before blending or use warm chickpeas.
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Stir in a little water or olive oil before serving if thickened.
- Hummus can be frozen for up to 3 months. Thaw in the fridge and blend again if needed.
