Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a cupcake tin with Valentine-themed liners. - Mix Dry Ingredients:
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and cocoa powder (if using). - Cream Wet Ingredients:
Beat sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well. Stir in vanilla extract and buttermilk. - Combine Mixtures:
Gradually fold dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Avoid overmixing. - Fill Liners:
Divide batter evenly among cupcake liners, filling each about two-thirds full. - Bake:
Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool cupcakes on a wire rack. - Make Frosting:
Beat butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, alternating with cream or milk, until desired consistency is reached. Mix in vanilla extract and food coloring. - Decorate:
Once cupcakes are completely cool, frost using a piping bag. Top with heart-shaped sprinkles, edible glitter, or mini chocolates.
