Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare:
    Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a cupcake tin with Valentine-themed liners.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients:
    In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and cocoa powder (if using).
  3. Cream Wet Ingredients:
    Beat sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well. Stir in vanilla extract and buttermilk.
  4. Combine Mixtures:
    Gradually fold dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
  5. Fill Liners:
    Divide batter evenly among cupcake liners, filling each about two-thirds full.
  6. Bake:
    Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool cupcakes on a wire rack.
  7. Make Frosting:
