Ingredients
For the Chicken:
- 2 chicken breast fillets, cut into thin strips
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp oregano
- 1/2 tsp paprika powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp pepper
For the Feta Tzatziki Sauce:
- 1/2 cucumber, grated
- 1/4 tsp salt (for draining cucumber)
- 1/2 cup feta cheese, crumbled
- 3/4 cup Greek yogurt
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 tsp fresh dill, chopped
- 1 tsp fresh mint, chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
For Assembly:
- 4 pita breads
- 1 tomato, sliced
- 1/2 onion, thinly sliced
- 1 cup lettuce, shredded
- Extra feta cheese for garnish (optional)
Instructions
1. Marinate the Chicken:
In a bowl, combine yogurt, lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, oregano, paprika, salt, and pepper. Add the chicken strips, mix well, and let marinate for at least 30 minutes.
2. Prepare the Feta Tzatziki Sauce:
Sprinkle salt over the grated cucumber and let sit for a few minutes. Squeeze out excess water. In a bowl, mix crumbled feta, Greek yogurt, cucumber, garlic, dill, and mint. Season with salt and pepper.
3. Cook the Chicken:
Heat a pan or grill pan over medium-high heat. Cook the marinated chicken strips until golden brown and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
4. Warm the Pita Bread:
Briefly heat pita bread in a pan or oven until warm and pliable.
5. Assemble the Gyros:
Spread a generous amount of Feta Tzatziki Sauce onto warm pita bread. Add cooked chicken, sliced tomatoes, onions, and lettuce. Sprinkle with extra feta if desired. Serve immediately.
