Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp water

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Meatballs: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined without overworking.
  2. Form the Meatballs: Shape into 1 to 1.5-inch meatballs.
  3. Brown the Meatballs: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook meatballs in batches until browned on all sides. Remove and set aside.
  4. Make the Gravy: In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté onions and mushrooms until softened and caramelized.
  5. Create the Sauce Base: Stir in tomato paste, Dijon mustard, and Worcestershire sauce. Cook for 1 minute.
  6. Add the Broth: Pour in beef broth, scraping up browned bits. Bring to a simmer.
  7. Thicken the Gravy: Mix cornstarch with water until smooth. Stir into the gravy and let it thicken.
  8. Simmer the Meatballs: Return meatballs to the skillet and simmer for 10 minutes until fully cooked.
  9. Serve: Enjoy with mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles.
